Start from the highest timeframe relevant to your hold time. A swing trader begins on weekly or daily; a day trader begins on daily or 4-hour. Mark obvious swing highs and lows where price reversed sharply — these are your primary levels.
Connect areas, not single candles. If three swing lows sit within a narrow band, draw one zone covering all three. The zone should include the bodies and wicks that matter, not just the extreme tick. Platforms like TradingView, Thinkorswim, and MetaTrader all offer rectangle or horizontal ray tools — use what keeps your chart readable.
Prioritize levels that align across timeframes. A daily support zone that matches a 4-hour consolidation floor is stronger than a level visible on only one chart. Manual traders build confluence by stacking independent reasons to care about a price area.
Remove levels that price has clearly invalidated. A level broken with conviction (strong close beyond the zone with follow-through) should be deleted or flipped to the opposite role. Cluttered charts with dozens of old lines create paralysis.
Re-draw weekly. Markets evolve; new swings create new levels. A five-minute ritual at the start of each week keeps your map current without over-analyzing every tick.
