Market Structure Overview

Market structure is the sequence of swing highs and swing lows price creates as it moves. In an uptrend, swings form higher highs (HH) and higher lows (HL). In a downtrend, lower highs (LH) and lower lows (LL). In balance, swings are roughly equal and overlap.

Structure gives manual traders objective bias. You are not guessing direction — you are reading what price has already done. As long as HLs hold in an uptrend, bias stays bullish until a HL is broken. That break is your signal that structure may be shifting.

Not every minor wiggle is structure. Define swing points with rules: for example, a swing high must have lower highs on both sides, or price must reverse by a minimum amount. Consistent rules prevent you from seeing structure everywhere.

Structure exists on every timeframe simultaneously. A bullish 15-minute structure can exist inside a bearish daily structure. Your trading timeframe structure defines entries; your higher timeframe structure defines whether those entries have tailwind or headwind.

Learning structure is learning to read history. The chart is a record of agreed value. Your edge is interpreting that record faster and more consistently than reactive, emotional decisions.
