Scalpers aim to extract small slices of price movement repeatedly — often 5 to 20 ticks, pips, or cents per trade — rather than holding for large swings. Positions are typically open from seconds to a few minutes, rarely hours.

The scalper's edge comes from reading immediate order flow through price action: tape speed, level reactions, spread behavior, and micro structure on 1-minute or tick charts. Indicators lag too much for pure scalping; the chart and DOM (if available) lead.

Costs matter enormously. Spread, commissions, and slippage eat scalping edge faster than swing trading edge. Manual scalpers choose liquid instruments during active sessions and avoid wide-spread names.

Scalping demands focus. You cannot scalp effectively while distracted. Sessions are short — many successful manual scalpers trade only 1–3 hours when their market is most liquid.

Scalping is not gambling on noise. The best manual scalpers have rules: defined levels, max daily loss, fixed share/lot size, and a small set of repeatable micro setups.
